Lautman Tank

The old Lautman water tank is in a poor state, the CRD would like to remove this tank from service as soon as possible as a failure of the tank would mean the system would not be able to deliver water to the subscribers.

The remedy preferred by the CRD is to bypass the old tank and bring the existing, but unused, new tank at the top of Sky Valley Road into service.  The work involves additional pipework and control equipment for the new tank.  In addition, because the new tank is at a higher level than the old tank, the water pressure in the pipework leading from Cusheon Lake Road to the Beddis area will be too high for the pipework to bear, so a pressure reducing valve  will have to be installed on Cusheon Lake Road.

Wouldn’t the issue of a pressure reducing valve have been anticipated in advance of locating the tank at a higher elevation? The decision to place it at this elevation would seem to invite higher costs and problems

  2. Michael, I guess the siting of the new tank beside Sky Valley Road was for two reasons, 1) the accessibility issue (have you tried to get down to the old Lautman tank? ..nightmare) and 2) there is plenty of room to work i.e the land was already available as a right of way, also there was enough room to eventually site the second tank if it becomes necessary, for once someone did plan ahead and built the hardstanding pad big enough to take two tanks.
Looking at the plans I have, which only go back a few years, they have the new Pressure Reducing Valve station showing so I guess buried within the original estimate was a section for the new PRV.

Living right next to the new tank on SKy Valley Rd – I sure hope there is going to be adequate sound suppression on the new pumps or my property value will hit the skids even more than it has. The CRD have already damaged my property to the point that flooding has washed all the topsoil out of our garden which we have now abandoned. Furthermore, against my wishes & instructions based on 20+ years of experience dealing with water drainage, they installed a pipe instead of an open ditch/drainage channel that I asked for. We now have “Cherry Lake” every winter due to backup in our culvert plus the closed pipe now clogged with dirt & debris. Nice neighbours!!!
